The boat to Catalina is 1 hour, and the percentage of the island with people on it is VERY small, like 5% of the island is where tourists go. The rest is open land, mostly untouched. They have re-introduced Bald Eagles there. Insects? I don't know. Aside from bees, I'm not too worried. They outnumber us like crazy, and when we destroy ourselves somewhere down the line, insects will be all thats left.
