Barcelona for the NY Times 9

Earlier this year I went to Barcelona with the New York Times Style Magazine, "T," to shoot photos for a travel story revolving around the fact that Barcelona has historically been a hub of Skateboard, Art, and Graffiti culture. Sadly, the article (and hence my photos) will never run because of staffing changes at the magazine. So I will do a series of posts sharing the photos I took on that trip to Spain this April, 2012.

This post will deal with the recently restored and reopened Palau Güell.

It's a house designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí for the rich guy Eusebi Güell.

I used to lurk the toy site every once in a while to check the photos out, and the abundance of hyperlinks was my favorite thing. There used to be so many

Ps. Just watched Elissa Steamer\'s Epically Later\'d anyone else have Ed\'s hair remind them of Crispin Glover during that interview?
I miss the old toy team, though the new one is amazing too. Wish Brian Anderson were back though

Nice pictures. Traveling is the life.

Just went into the city yesterday, and had two star sightings. First I saw the lead singer of the Strokes, but I didn't snap a photo with him. He lives next to The Strand, or was going into that building at least. And then I'm walking down the street and I ran into Bill Powers, the guy who curated Teenage Kissers or owns Half Gallery. I talked to him, he was thumbing through vinyls outside of some music store near Union Square. He was debating buying a Huey Lewis and the News album, the same one from American Psycho I think, he talked about that scene.

Congrats on the magazine job S!

i always thought of them as the bastard child of nike
and that the N was for nike
now i know.
Posted By: fresh from mex on December 10th, 2012 at 02:19PM PST
hi guys. I've been neglecting my commenting duties. Sorry. I see Ed's foot is healing up nice. Hopefully we will see some fresh new HB pier posts here soon.

New balance is making a skate shoe? I want to see that shoe.
Posted By: emilie on December 11th, 2012 at 05:38AM PST
HA! I need to check the links more. Thanks Fresh.
Posted By: emilie on December 11th, 2012 at 05:41AM PST
Hey Ed,
I sent you the questions.
Posted By: S on December 11th, 2012 at 05:52AM PST
New Balance should sponsor dad pros and pros over 40.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on December 11th, 2012 at 03:38PM PST
I don't know about you guys but New Balance is kinda weird. Sketchers should make skate shoes. lolz I always thought they were Nike's too. I like the color ways on the links, Fresh!

Well good luck to you students taking finals. I wish I was in school now. Well I kinda wish I was.

Dang, Mike must be nice to run into celebs! We call one of my friends Fabrizo(named after the drummer of the strokes. He has hair like him.

Elissa has an insta!
Posted By: Josiah on December 11th, 2012 at 04:32PM PST
Pretty sure Sketchers sponsored Louie Barletta. But. Yeah. Coming back with a full skate program would be so retarded. Like, Shape-Ups SB
with tha fat heel.

Rieder should head Toms SB
Posted By: Jgonzalez on December 11th, 2012 at 09:09PM PST
haha say what? Barletta on sketchers? LOLzx1000

Okay so how many of you guys think the whole David Gonzalez SOTY 2012 was a setup? He doesn't deserve it. They were a little bias this year.
Posted By: Josiah on December 11th, 2012 at 09:16PM PST
Altough David wasn\'t my favourite pick this year (that was Guy) I think he did deserve it just as much as the others, he skated like a madman in his posessed to skate video. In my mind there is no doubt that he worked his ass of for that part. I think the Phelper has kind of a mancrush on David, but I don\'t think it was unfair game. His sponsors gave him alot of ads in thrasher to get votes, I\'m sure he got them too.

on a second note, I never liked that Phelps guy very much. He seems obnoxious.
Posted By: emilie on December 12th, 2012 at 08:03AM PST
@Emilie haha true!
Posted By: Josiah on December 12th, 2012 at 04:00PM PST
Everyone knows it's Phelp's decision. They factor whoever does a lot of shit for Thrasher also, and gets tons of coverage.
Anyway. David's part was crazy, it was also kind of one of the only parts full of tons of clips that really were on another level. Like his last trick. Plus his throwing up the horns metal demeanor nihilistic approach to skating fits the Thrasher image pretty good. So, in the constraints of the year of 2012, David killed it. I don't even read the magazine anymore, no subscription. LOL.
I wonder how David's style will change as he ages, or will he forever wear black jeans with a black logo tee and headband. Can David rock dickies, flannel and a beanie. or I guess nowadays highwaters, 5 panel, and pocket tee with back logo.

Ed SOTY every fucking year
Posted By: Jgonzalez on December 12th, 2012 at 07:41PM PST
Lil Wayne SOTY 2012
Posted By: Jgonzalez on December 12th, 2012 at 07:41PM PST
hahaha yea David is "Thrasher's" SOTY. Thrasher is okay as far as coverage goes. I used to sub to Skateboarder, I like that mag, they always have a lot of Toy stuff.

The only mag I don't really read is The skateboard mag. I would read Transworld but I cant ever find em.

ED SOTY forever. I back that.
Posted By: Josiah on December 12th, 2012 at 09:23PM PST
ive been accumulating several ounces of gas in my stomach for 5 hours because im at the library studying and theres a lot of people and now my belly is bloated and noisy

gotta let it rip asap
i might as well fart in the toilet,
you play with fire with an oops poops.
have you ever let one out so hard in the toilet that the echo gets loud as fuck and the water waves violently move as if moses was opening the red sea?
"and moses said 'let my poop go' "
Posted By: fresh from mex on December 12th, 2012 at 11:37PM PST
hahaha fresh, you bad boy, let it rip!

@jgonz -haha Lil Wayne SOTY, that guy is so annoying.

I'm currently writing an exam in arts, I have to explain what creativity is. I might just write Ed Templeton.
Posted By: emilie on December 13th, 2012 at 01:31AM PST
what kind of topic "explain creativity" is?
fuck, i'd really hate to write a dissertation on that
it sounds more like a never ending philosophy paper to me
best wishes emilia
Posted By: fresh from mex on December 13th, 2012 at 08:43PM PST
thanks fresh, I know, it could be a never ending paper. We have to write about it in relation to teaching arts and crafts to grade school kids.

Ed, you posted this ten days ago. I'm hungry for more posts, don't you have anything old for us? What about a post with some of those legendary shoeboxprints?
Posted By: emilie on December 14th, 2012 at 01:31AM PST
It's been days since an update. I mean, it's funny that a pic posted here only gets like around 10 comments from the same nerds all the time but when it goes on Insta Ed can get thousands of likes.

Internet existentialism

I bougth the new Thrasher to get bake and destroy, but still have not read the magazine at all. yeah.
