Started shooting digi shots on the night before D's birthday, because I broke the lens on the Canon camera I brought earlier that day, and was without camera save for the digi point and shoot. Bad for me, but good for the blog.
"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream only at night." -Edgar Allan Poe
The old arcade that many people including myself spent their childhood's in playing Skeeball, and air hockey has been converted into something very strange. Mini bowling one of the new changes.
They were sane enough to leave in a few Skeeball's only one was working...
"Fame is being asked to sign your autograph on the back of a cigarette packet." -Billy Connolly
People were gorging themselves on waffle cones.
Selling popcorn on the beach.
For tonight's movie on the beach...
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Deanna's Birthday! Off we went on the Joe's rent-a-boat...
Directly to Willow Cove for a picnic, nobody was there, we had the cove to ourselves.
Exploration.
The landscape is rugged and resplendent.
Any lobster stranded would soon be chomped by birds. How else would they be on the beach?
A puckered starfish.
The Beauty amongst the blooms
Prickly.
You could only see
Saddleback from the island.
Out near Long Point.
A swarm of
Leopard Shark. See the video at the top of the post. I got in and snorkeled with these guys. I also spotted a
Grey Smooth Hound Shark amongst the
Leopards. These guys were all 4 to 5 feet long, pretty much full size for this shark.
Villa Portofino phones it in, but the bread was good!
This painting is inside the famous Casino building, in the theater where we watched the new Harry Potter film.
Our buddy the increasingly brave Cormorant.
Abalone point, where recently there have been two scary shark sightings. A Great White was observed eating a black sea bass, and a Mako Shark was apparently seen. My homies on the island have yet to see the evidence, but apparently the person who saw them shot photos. This point is yards away from a famous snorkeling spot!
The day after Deanna's birthday was hazy with a marine layer...
Catalina sends rocks back to the mainland, and we send them dirt.
Seal Rocks is actually home to a colony of Sea Lions.
We saw 4 Bald Eagles the first day, but none the following two days. There are 7 nesting pairs of Bald Eagle on the island. We saw two adults and two juveniles. The young ones look like big hawks since they don't have the famous white hood of feathers yet.
Lounging in their own stink.
We checked out the local skate park which has fallen into great disrepair.
Some different views of Avalon.
Then we were back to mainland ourselves...
