Half-Frame photos from 1998-99

Dug into an old proof sheet and was shocked how many different people were on one roll.
Tobin Yelland, a big inspiration for me.
Brad Staba and Ryan Gee punch each other.
Your's Truly and the beach.
Michael Reinwald from Austria.
Hot-dog on a stick?
Christine Todd.
Deanna and Ptah, Fountain Valley.
The hated phone.
Geoff Rowley and Chrissy.

I have stopped posting on Thrasher completely as of one month ago. just so you know. there are imposters out there. I just see ridiculous uses of my screen name on there and yeah. . . just thought I would throw that out there.

anyhow- I put a sticker on my laptop recently. It's the only one on there. it's the TOYMACHINE knuckle sticker I got with my socks way back. I was in english class and this huge black dude (like Rob DryDick's security guard) came up to me and pointed. I was naturally frightened for my virgin butthole but then he laughed and was like "that is so funny man. that hand only got like tree finga on it. da utta one got like seven finga."

it was funnier if you were there. which you weren't, but I wish you were at that moment.

I tried explaining in my printmaking class that it's not always the subject; sometimes, especially in photography it's the composition that dictates a good piece of work. no one seemed to understand me despite the fact that it's the focal point of the class. oh well.

sock team and all that good stuff. I don't have a camera so I can't shoot a video until my friend from Andover decides to visit me on certain occasions.

Two things I miss; the old ToyMachine lineup with Maldanado, Getz, and Brian.... they were like a good little trio to have.

the other thing I miss; Beetard Fooser boards. They were like the best thing in my life after the Dork peppermint patty boards.... now I wish that Beetard Fooser would make a comeback. Ed, is there any possibility in the world this could happen?

Why did you mention that dude was Black? Like they're different than other people or something?
I followed your blawg.

God, These photos are great.

I haven't seen a Hotdog on a Stick in forever.
They embarrass the employees with ridiculous hats while they serve shredded and compressed meat tubes. Like your life is any better?

My friend got this Film Camera that supposedly takes 3d photos. it's a point and shoot camera. It looks crazy since it has 3 little lens holes. One thing to look forward to when I get a job. I can pay to fuck around with Film. I'll keep dreaming.

I love Brian Anderson's skateboarding.I read in BA's Thrasher interview that he lived in Eureka. I wonder where now.

It looks like Grant updated his blog with some Southern Humboldt. Makes me want some of that inland heat.

Who talks on Phones that big and plasticy anymore? I remember calling my Grandma once with a phone that was just buttons. That's gonna be a favorite story of mine when I become old.

Classic Toy Machine stuff in this post.

About that class that saw you guys nude. It's funny to think that your art has been exposed to a Classroom. A bunch of kids saw your wife. Whatever. I saw horror movies and heard nasty language when I was a kid. I think I turned out alright. Hopefully.

I've been updating the-fuck out of the Toy Sockteam blog. Put an arrow nxt 2 dat.

B.A. should really be back on TM.
It´s like almost every team has kind of a fatherfigure and
although Ed´s kindat hat one within TM, I guess he`s/your
not going out skating with the boys everyday, so.

Although B.A.´s from an older Toytime, and seems that he´s
well integrated in Girl, he would definitly fit into the present team,
but what am I talking about.
Maybe his only flaw is that he rides with a swoosh,
I will never get how people like him, also Lance and
Koston go with the swoosh.

I´m sorry for making up a short subject here but,
I just think it´s wrong.Kids look up to those guys
and they´re a longtime part of the skateboarding
community. So if they show, that it´s okay to support
a sportscompany rather than a real, true to the
core skatebrand, kids will go the same way.

And support recession, cause smaller brands
will die by that.

But again, what am I talking about....

Again, what am I talking about...but,

has Toy ever considered making shoes and specially
with focus on ethical aspects?
I know your Emerica shoes are nonleather,
but something that´s made from TM?
I was reminded of that by seeing Lasn´s black
spot shoe, you propably know.
Making shoes isn´t propably easy and making
them right even more difficult, but I just thought that
would fit into the concept, and there are just not
enough good shoes made like that out there.
I would buy them.

I like these photos. They have the feel of a silent film. Hazy days gone by.
Posted By: Sean on October 15th, 2010 at 07:33AM PST
I miss the old days but I always look forward to the new days.

@jgarganza: I mentioned he was black because I was trying to get the image of a giant guy like the guy who follows DriedDick around coming up to you and pointing. I didn't do a good job on the narration but I tried to get the situation across.

@Ed: sweet. I'll probably be buying the new and improved Beetard Fooser. fun times

@S Van: Talking to professional skateboarders that are a bit older and have already chisled their mark on skating history, they all say in a very candid matter that they went where the money is. I wouldn't think, as a teenager growing up, that pros would 'go where the money is'. But that's something that you don't think about when you are younger- especially when people stayed on teams and showed loyalty to their sponsors. I mean, the whole musical chairs with sponsorship is kind of taken for granted nowadays. It's just like someone can get big, ride for whoever will take them and within MONTHS they move on to a bigger company.

Other times, especially in the case of Arto and Appleyard, it seems like teams start getting new people on the team, things are hectic with everyone and veteran riders are like "fuck this. I'm just not feeling welcome anymore". I guess it's all just conjecture, so I'm sorry if I sound stupid.
Posted By: d1ggitydan on October 15th, 2010 at 07:58AM PST
its the money. Chet Childress was pretty blunt about it, saying he joined Nike because they pay more and provide more for the riders...
Posted By: vinny on October 15th, 2010 at 09:11AM PST
Dan, I was Jk.
I think it's funny when people that describe someone that happens to be black, they use skin color as the main descriptor

Sheckler needs to get on Nike Sb. Or are they too core to have a "Sellout" on their team? Some paradoxical shit.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on October 15th, 2010 at 11:03AM PST
I work with this huge black guy.I also work with a tall black tranny. That shit is crazy.
Im not racist.

Ya, there's like 3 black kids in my school so whenever someones describing them they just say "that black kid."

It seems I'm the only one with no blog. Maybe I'll make one.
Posted By: john on October 15th, 2010 at 05:16PM PST
yeah, john. There were two black kids in my Elementary class. Everyone thought they were Brother and Sister, basically since they were black. Being brown felt weird there.

Looks like Penis Envy and some other albums are getting remixed and re-issued:

Has anybody bought the new Bona Drag?
Posted By: Jgonzalez on October 15th, 2010 at 08:25PM PST
MEGA POST! Nice. I enjoyed myself. I checked the links, learned some things, saw some good photos and whatnot.

..........Hot Dog on a Stick is real? It was my understanding that in some movies and T.V. shows that they made up that ridiculous chain. That's fucking crazy that it's real haha.

JGonz- thanks for the link of the power ranger guy.

I like the photo of B.A. in the Sheckler shirt haha

hot dog on a stick = corn dog

we call those things here "pipo" (pee-poh)

señor ed, me das un pipo porfavor? lo quiero para metermelo por el culo.
Posted By: fresh from mex on October 17th, 2010 at 12:58AM PST
translation:Mr. Ed, please give me a pip? I want to grinding him in the ass... I think that's right.

you want a corndog to ... grind who up the where?

yeah we call those corn dogs as well. very commonplace. but when I saw bacon dogs I thought that was wild. I would never eat one. it's strange how much bacon is touted as an awesome meat, but I don't really like it.
Posted By: d1ggitydan on October 17th, 2010 at 10:02AM PST
yeah. bacon is too salty.

speaking of bacon, has anyone seen the film "Unser Täglich Brot" (translates to, Our Daily Bread) by Nikolas Geyrhalter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765849/).
It's like the agricultural/food version of Koyaanisqatsi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085809/)
Posted By: vinny on October 17th, 2010 at 12:30PM PST
They used to feed us Corn Dogs at my elementary school. I would take the stick out of the corn dog. Then use it to cut a saggital incision. Then i'd squirt in Ketchup for blood. My friend and I would pretend it was an operation where,I guess,we'd just end up mutilating our subjects.

Does Unser täglich Brot show scenes in slaughter houses? I think everyone should see shit like that, since that's how are food is made. The Peta vid Meet your Meat is a little too dramatic and filled with Bias,of course it should be assumed since it's coming from Peta. But whatever. I'll just keep eating my microwave Bacon Dogs and jacking off to porn.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on October 17th, 2010 at 02:46PM PST
The hot dogs at my elementary school were like rubber. You could through them at the ground as hard as you could and they would bounce up to the ceiling. No joke.
