Nuoro, Italy: Part 4 - Cala Gonone: part 2

After our first day in Cala Gonone, we drove back to Nuoro, ate dinner, slept, got up and went back to Cala Gonone for a second day...
We got into Cala Gonone after a 40 minute drive in the Smart Car, parked that bitch, bought cheap hats and a towell, and rented a boat so we could explore by ourselves.
We started out, happy to have the wind in our face, the town behind us, and the natural sea and rugged coast in front of us.
Deanna was giddy with excitement.
The coast here is nothing short of epic. Completely transparent water that glow turquoise blue over the white sandy bottom, you can snorkel just standing on the boat. (If there were any animals to see! There are barely any birds, like I said before.) The coast drops off in sheer cliffs, with deep grottoes and caves all over the place. No waves. It's like being in a real life Pirates of the Mediterranean.
Rugged and craggy, Caves complete with stalagtites, and crystal clear water. I wonderland of childhood exploration.
This one had a rickety pathway bolted to the side of the cliff so you could get into from land. Most of these beaches and caves are only accessible from the sea.
Just so you can see the size of some of these caves, here are some that have a beach inside of them, and people get boated to this beach to hang out all day.
Look at this place!
Half-Dome of Sardegna.
In Italy they are super punk when it comes to boats. To get people to these remote beaches, they just ram these huge ships onto the beach and slap a ramp down for people to climb up. Then just reverse out of there to another beach, music playing, people dancing. No big deal.
I drove our boat right into a cave, and reversed out. It smelled like a cave, go figure.
Lets get a flash on this situation.
Deanna skippered the boat for a while too...
Finally, we took a dip in the warm refreshing water, clean and blue, no people around to muss it up. Deanna floats in the relaxing sea.
This is the cave we anchored our boat by –  we swam in to explore it. It was dark, and there was some plants in there. It went back super far, and there was a rope and a sign saying don't go in here, it's not safe. Deanna said it smelled like the Pirates ride at Disneyland. It was cold. The water was warmer, so we went back in, and floated around in bliss.
Deanna went topless for a short while, sunning herself the Sardinian way.
The beach near the port of Cala Gonone, where we swam our first day.
Deanna said what is that! And after looking for a while, I said, I think it's a dog. It was a dog, and we watched it swim further and further out to sea. Finally, it turned and headed along the coast, but still way out there. We watched it until it became a little dot barely perceivable to the naked eye. Later, we saw the same dog running on the beach, he jumped back in and started swimming again out to see.
This is when he went back out to sea. The enegry it would take for me to swim as far as this dog did, and run back and do it over again would surely kill me.
This guy tried to scare Deanna with a beetle he found. It probably wanted to make a nest in her ear.
Lets get a closer look at this little guy. There are no venomous snakes on the island, and the only animal that might hurt you is a wild boar.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's Amore.

those caves are amazing- up in Michigan by the Apostle Islands there are caves like that but not as massive. You can take your sea kayak and go in, but you have to watch out that you don't get stuck in there. Otherwise, that's a wrap.

I'm sure Deanna enjoys that water for photography reasons; read her thing about finding enjoyment in pool pictures/water/stuff in Juxta. Everything looks like good memories; from the boat ride out to the caves to the simple strange local creepin with a beetle.

"It smelled like cave" had me laughing. I can't get over that water though; pristine. it's simply awesome. I've been to a few places like that where the water is so nice and, really, you can go "snorkling without leaving the boat".

well, I'm out of here. have a good day everyone.

This looks like a fun time.

Those caves look tiny, but up close they are humungo.

Who would've known Italians are badass when it comes to boating..

The floating deanna photo is super awesome.
Can't show us those boobs...

Dogs are even cooler there too?? This place sounds amazing.

What's going on under that guy's right arm?
Sweet bug. It's huge. Protein.

I love that smell. It's one of my favorites. Carolyn has a Tiara luggage case that smells like that. It's awesome. So nostalgic. Super pungent, but calming.

Warm water is scary. Full of germs. Wait, the water is the color of water, which means it isn't bad, or dark green like California water.

If Pro artist and Skater weren't meant to be,it looks like Marine Biologist would have been what you were meant to do. Since you give a shit about the marine habitat and like to observe different environments.

I like your dorky, white guy hats that you guys wear.

Clear, and warm water good for humans. But not for wildlife. No nutrients there. There's this pod of whales off the coast like an hour from where I live that has stopped migrating since our murky and cool water gives them enough food. They've been chilling there.

It looks like Deanna should have done her Swimmer photo series there. maybe ask some natives IE boob girl with pissed off friend from the last post to pose for some pics

Great job censoring your wife. I guess we have to buy your books or go to your art galleries to see that electronic veil lifted. I'll have my eyes peeled for your silly penis photos.

your shins look huge in that photo of you sitting.

I swam across a pool this weekend. My heart was pumping and my arms got weak just going across. I'm out of shape.

Cheesey, greasy, meaty, pizza. What I like about pizza is you can put your favorite shit on top and usually whatever it is it's still good. because it's a fucking pizza.

Whatever happened to that letterman sex scandal? it's pretty gross imagining having sex with David Letterman. 0 sex appeal.

ed! you were in one of my dreams last night, AGAIN! and deanna was there too this time! you guys gave me a ride home and i sat in the back with deanna and she told me she knew people who lived by me! then you asked about all the squirrels in my yard and i told you it was because my mother feeds them and that one time when i was cutting the grass there was a bear in my yard standing straight up and drooling while watching me! it ended by me telling you i had a surprise for you in my house, and i explained that i went to school for sculpture, more specifically casting, and that i wanted to give you one of my bronze or iron pieces! you then pounded my fist, haha. anyway the weird thing is that when i heard about your show at ICP i told my girlfriend i wanted to drive there (from pennsylvania which would have been so doable!) and really give you a piece just for being so awesome! so just so you know, you rule!, you're in my dreams, and if we ever meet again i have something to give you!

I wanted to take a bus to Oakland to see Morrissey, but that didn't happen. I want to see him pretty bad before he retires...babbling,babbling.
