Rode my bike over to the HB park to see what is going on. They fenced it weeks ago, but have not yet demolished it.
What assholes! I could have skated it for like two more weeks!
Technically you can still skate it, they have not damaged the cement. A bank session could go down easily.
BUT, they did post 'no trespassing' signs, and are rumored to be giving out tickets.
Such a bummer to see! They are cutting down all the big metal fences.
I'm saying lets go get a last of last sessions in!
They cut the kinker bar out too, or did someone steal it? WHO HAS THE KINKER BAR!

I did a workshop for a group of high school kids in LA yesterday. The plan was to group the kids into tables of three and have them come up with a skateboard company idea. Each cluster would come up with a name, identify a target consumer, come up with a logo, and make three skateboard graphics that would be painted onto blank boards provided by Toy Machine. The kids came up with some pretty fun stuff. One groups target consumer was 'old people', and another's was 'businessmen'.
This girl is painting her idea onto a skateboard.
The finished product.
This kid was going for it, using cork, and glue with yarn... Here is a detail.
This kids idea was to paint people in a welfare line. Their company name was 'Gato'.
The finished product.
This girls group called their company 'Geriatrics'
Blow drying the boards for faster drying!
Groups working on their 'brand image'.
hard at work.
This girl was writing a poem about David Bowie on her board. It was great!
This is Sage. His question to me: 'Would you crook El Toro for twenty bucks?'
My answer: 'No.'
'What about a million bucks?' he said.
I said, 'Yeah, I would have to go for it.'
This is what Sage painted.
I painted one too!
Here are some of the hand-painted skateboards: 01--02--03--04--05.
Aaron Rose was there to help me out.
Some kids drew a picture of me while I was doing a slide show to introduce myself.
After the workshop, kids were asked to fill out a questionnaire. I got mostly good reviews!
And so did Deanna!

Today I am doing one of these Workshops in LA. I am teaching high-school kids how to create thier own skateboard company, with a focus on designing graphics...
This moth was resting at my house. And although it is no big whoop if you are from the south, this guy is pretty big for southern California.
Go see the Beautiful Losers Film in LA. It's only playing for a week, so it will be your only chance in So-Cal to see it on the big screen.

Nothing big, just the usual ANP Quarterly magazine meeting. (top secret)
Brendan had some epic sunglasses.
Then we sat and talked about stuff.
Stu was there, contemplating his future. It looks bright.

Here is a run-down of my day yesterday...
Ran into Alex Olson at M Cafe in LA, he is all grown up.
I saw this jacked manequin at Trashy Lingerie on our way to LA's first Beautiful Losers Film Screening. I was there because after the screening I had to get up on stage in front of the huge audience and answer questions. Yikes.
Watching the movie...
This is where I will be sitting in a few moments.
This was shot during the talk, what dedication I have to my blog! It's all for you. That is Cheryl Dunn looking at me.
After the talk, which I escaped unharmed, we hung out at the 'party' for a short bit... That is the film-maker, Aaron Rose.
This is a photo of Fette and Lindsay, Lindsay will hate it, but I love it because of the cool background. MIke Mills and MIranda July present me to my website lookers...

Deanna Templeton and Ashley Macomber were invited by the lovely Wendy who operates the amazing Ooga Booga Store, to decorate the windows with artwork. The girls got together to form a strategy for the perfect blend of their talents. When opening night came, the place was crawling with hipsters...
The store was crowded, but that is a good thing. Hopefully no assholes stole anything.
Deanna and Ashley went out to the alley to Hide-Out...
Deanna explains what her photos are all about.
Ashley made this big sculpture thing, with ribbons, video tape and modified books. There was a photo of me pasted into one called 'The Bridge to Maturity,' I wonder what the message is there?
I was trying to shoot photos of the stuff, but a band was playing and people were everywhere.
There were (ARE, go see it!!!) some pretty cool things to see.
Ashley collaged and painted on some of Deanna's photos from Russia...
And some of her portraits...
The face on this one was awesome...
Then we went to see a stand-up comedy show that our friend Kevin Christy was going to perform in. Ashley's legs were not messing around this night. She was worried she looked like a hooker...
I told her, 'no way, well, only from the waist down...'
This is Kevin...
His new material is funny as shit, he made the other comics look like some middle school kids.

Check out this Slide Show of Beautiful Losers Tokyo, it's awesome.

This guy came walking by and decided to tell me a story. He says when he goes into a business and wants to buy something or use their bathroom, if they give him any static or try to kick him out he busts out this flag, and parades around screaming 'White Power!' I thought it was a pretty good idea, and funny too.

It was pretty cute. The HB Park feels dead. I skated it yesterday behind the fence, without flat-bar. Very sad. And Bernie Mac died. See it on the RVCA Blog, and scroll down for some Josh and Austin coverage.

Saw Ben Gilley who showed me something...
A tattoo of one of my old New Deal graphics from 1990/91-!!! I feel so honored.
Then got a call from Geoff who was at the HB park with intent to steal the Park Bar, but alas it was already missing!
He left a message for all to see...
Where is the Famed HB Park Flat-Bar?

I arrived for my usual evening session around 5:30/6, and was shocked when I drove up to see a big green fence cloaking my beloved park. Just yesterday we were thinking about old times here with a concerned Chad TimTim, and it was hard to believe that this might happen.
We have been talking about it for months now...
There were about 2 weeks of 'Last Day' style sessions. Each evening around 6 everyone would go for broke like we would never shred this place again, like the next time we came it would be a pile of dirt, but then we would come back and do it again.
But this time was real. There were people skating when I showed up, so I was for sure going to get my last moves in...
I shot a few photos of the fence...
And checked out the posted Notice to HB Skaters.
JJ was inside ripping already!
I needed to get in there!
Right when I was rolling up to the gap in the fence the Fuzz arrived...
They kicked out all the kids skating!
Cleared the whole park!
Made sure every last person was out.
When they left I sneaked back in to get my last moves. I may go over today and check it out too, but the Fallen Video premieres tonight!
This is a photo of my installation.
I found more photos of the show on Some Guys Blog...
The Beautiful Losers Movie was premiering in Tokyo and they mounted an edited version of the show as well.

And ran into no other than HB local Tosh Townend, who was signing autographs for his new sponsor, a surfboard company!
I got one signed. Sweet. I always thought if I had a kid, I would push him towards surfing rather than skating. The locations are better, and the girls are in bikinis instead of baggy skate gear. For me, I'm a lifer on a skateboard. I mean I grew up in Surf City USA and still became a skater, everyone around me in school surfed. Skating rules too hard. But once in a while I would be spending a hot summer day in a shit-hole like Dortmund, Germany and think, "If I were a pro surfer I would be in Fiji right now..."
I would never trade it though.

Stijn and his wonderful family came by for a 3 day visit before my birthday. He bought a new bass guitar and was practicing away. Coolest dad ever.
Samy was trying out my plastic accordion.
Jesse scored a new board from my garage.
They slept sprawled all over our couch and on the cushions, it was so cute.
Then we arranged a trip to the RVCA warehouse for a mini-spree. They were very amped! Then Deanna and I left for Catalina, and they headed east into the Canyon de Chelly.

(This was the 29th.) Today it was just Deanna and me, the island is a great place to go with your loved one.
We blew up Deanna's 'Chill Tube' and floated our picnic to a deserted beach...
The place is called Willow Cove, there is an empty campsite there with a picnic table.
It is our favorite place to eat, and we usually see Bald Eagles flying around, or perched on a rock.
Back in Avalon, we enjoyed the evening, watched and took photos of local kids swimming in the harbor.
Our boat back home left at 7:30, and we watched the sunset in all it's glory as it first came back from behind the island, then went down under the sea.
If you like spying on people, see the Avalon Webcams and peep away!
These people must have had a rough day in the sun.
Thanks to all the friends who came over, and to Deanna for making my random 36th B-Day such a memorable one.
See the RVCA Website (scroll down) for photos from the Book signing that happened last night. Thanks for all the people that came!
